Noise Hunters Devlog 9 - Noise or Silence


Hello [Code_Name: MEVYE] [Location: CLASSIFIED], welcome back!

Today we will talk about how we simplified the sound tier system.

As we mentioned in previous posts, Noise Hunters originally would have sound tiers and different listener tier, you can check it out with more detail in this devlog. During our sessions of play-testing we found out that the players didn't understand how the tier system worked and how it affected the enemies they encountered. We faced a big problem on colour saturation: With 3 different type of sound, there would have to be 3 different colours that should be distinguishable between them, even in the dark, this created an effect that would confuse the player instead of informing what type of sound they are doing.


With feedback of play-testers and colleges, we decided to simplify the system so there is only 1 type of sound the player can generate. Basically, a binary system, on or off, sound or silence. This way the player will understand easily how the system works and creates more tension situations, as everything can hear the player if they are close enough.
