Noise Hunters Devlog 27 - Communication

Hello [Code_Name: MEVYE] [Location: CLASSIFIED], welcome back!

Today we will see the importance of communication inside of a team!

One important thing we learned on the development of Noise Hunters is how communication can change the work. The first weeks of development we had enthusiasm to start and make progress on the game, but when we started to bump into problems and disagreements, the communication started to decay.

On a team where there is no communication, no one knows how the project is going, what is needed to be done, what are the priorities, etc. So the weeks go on without much progress and frustration builds up in the members of  the team. This is a huge problem for any team, if the members burst out of frustration on each other causing people to want to quit and leave the project behind for a better work atmosphere, or the team will slowly burnout and could have drastic consequences in future projects.

Some started to build up in Noise Hunters, but with the help of external people and will, we managed to improve the communication between the members and create a great work atmosphere. In which, even if the work may not be the best of the best, the mental health of the people involved is good and that is the most important part. This will encourage people to improve and make a better self, not only on this particular project, but in their work lifetime.

We can give some tips to avoid or get out of this type of situations, based on our experience:

  • Separate work and leisure: Some times you can be friends with team members and hangout in your spare time. Try to avoid work talk when you are of and vice versa. This will help maintain a good relation with your friends and work colleagues.
  • Inform the team: Inform every time you make progress on a task or finish as much as possible, using tools like Discord, that enable chat channels for different departments. This will keep the team informed of the progress of the project and which areas need more importance or less.
  • Don't assume: The people working on project have a personal life that can affect their work and is important to ask if something is going on that may affecting and the other way around, be open when explaining your problems. This will avoid grudges between people and possible conflicts.
  • Frequent Meetings: Do weekly meeting as a minimum, to see what has been done and what has to be done in the next week. This will keep the team in touch and makes it easier to keep track of the progress. You can make daily meetings, if you prefer. Important: this meetings have to be short and to the point, so they don't drag out and subtracts work time.

Thanks for reading and don’t make any noise! 🤫
